MRLS Library Policies
Since the Mountain Regional Library System serves such a large portion of our communities, it is necessary that we have written and published policies regarding various aspects of our services. These polices are listed with links to the right and are there to be accessable to all and to make sure everyone can look them up at any time.
We appreciate your cooperation in following these policies and we hope you enjoy your experience at the library whether in person or online.
As a member of the PINES network, the Mountain Regional Library System has adopted circulation rules in accordance with PINES policy.
In order to check out materials, use a computer, place a hold on materials, or renew items, you will need to have a valid PINES library card.
You must present your PINES card each time you wish to check out or renew materials, use a computer, or have holds placed by library staff.
Books, videos, audio cassettes, CDs, and magazines (except current issues) may be checked out for a period of two weeks.
Items without holds may be renewed for an additional two weeks. Renewals may be requested by phone, by e-mail, or online through PINES user services with your library card number and PIN.
Items with holds may not be renewed.
Reference books, newspapers, current magazines, genealogy books and microfilm, Appalachian recordings, and special collections materials may be used inside the library, but not be taken from the building.
Lost, damaged, or unreturned materials must be replaced in accordance with the Mountain Regional Library System Lost Materials Policy
Parents or legal guardians are responsible for items checked out by children under the age of 18 and their incurred financial obligations. For more details, see the Mountain Regional Library System Related Cards Policy.
