Notice of Public Meeting

First Floor Jury Room - Union County Courthouse
65 Courthouse Street in Blairsville, GA

The Mountain Regional Library System on behalf of the Union County Public Library has applied for an equipment grant through the USDA Rural Development in conjunction with the library renovation and addition project. This meeting is called to give citizens the opportunity to learn about the proposed project and to comment on the project's economic and environmental impacts, service area, alternatives to the project, or any other issue identified by USDA Rural Development.

The Union County Public Library building at 303 Hunt-Martin Street in Blairsville, Georgia is being expanded and renovated! UCPL has moved to its temporary location at 178 Bracketts Way, Suite 6 in Blairsville across the street from United Community Bank's Bracketts Way Branch. UCPL will be in this temporary location from 1 year to 18 months while construction takes place on the main building. Susie Brendle is the Librarian.

Services

In addition to a large circulating collection of popular genre and inspirational fiction, UCPL has a strong large print collection. There are 10 Public Access Computers at UCPL's Bracketts Way location, with broadband access to the Internet and Georgia's virtual library of online databases, GALILEO. You will need your PINES library card to sign in to a computer; please view our computer services page for more details. Free round-the-clock public wireless service is also available for those with appropriately equipped mobile devices - a PINES account is not necessary to connect.

Due to the reduced number of Public Access Computers at our new location, total computer time will be limited to 3 hours per day. This change has been made to ensure equal computer access to all our patrons. If you need more time on a Public Access Computer, please visit one of our other branches. The wireless access policy has not changed; MRLS wireless service will still be available at the new location 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Events & Story Times

Union County Public Library has hosted book-signings by authors of local interest, informational seminars, book clubs, and Teen Movie nights in the past. However, due to the move to a smaller temporary location as part of the expansion and renovation project, no programs will be offered at UCPL until after we re-open at our new facility. For regular children's storytimes during the year, join us Wednesdays at 11:00am at Mountain Regional Library in Young Harris, and check the MRLS Events Calendar for other programming.

Union County Public Library Board of Trustees

The Union County Public Library Board of Trustees is composed of six members appointed by the governmental agencies financially supporting the library on a regular basis and two members who serve on an ex officio basis. View the full list of UCPL Board members.
